Biase Ciccone and his wife Maria opened their grocery store in a building on the corner of Westwood and Third Avenue in 1933. The building formerly housed a Kroger grocery store, then a shoe repair and barber shop.

In 1924, Dr. Clayton Smith (pictured at the right) was a member of the Faculty of Medicine at Ohio State University and was a professor of Physiological Chemistry. He was also the school physician for Grandview Heights High School. Miss Marie McElwee, pictured along side Dr. Smith, was the school nurse.

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2023, the Society, in collaboration with the Grandview Heights Public Library (GHPL), introduced its second interactive timeline. With information digitized from the Society's Final Salute publication, this timeline honors individuals from Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff who died in the service to our country. The 1976 Grandview Halloween Street Festival began on Saturday, October 30. Grandview Avenue, from First to Third Avenues, was closed with goblin Lynn Veach, Grandview Parks and Recreation Department Director (pictured here) and Nancy Paul, Recreation Leader, roaming the street in costume.

The fathers and sons banquet for residents of Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff and Upper Arlington was held annually at the Deshler Hotel. This 1921 photo shows the fathers and their sons having dinner in the hotel ballroom, while the mothers and the boys' sisters were allowed to view the event over the railing from the balcony.

This Fred Fixler painting was the cover of the football program for the 1960 game between Grandview and Hilliard. The Bobcats lost the contest 20-14 that night, but the team played strong games later in the year.

Long's Drugs was located in the Grandview Bank Block at 1275 Grandview Avenue, at the current site of Stauf's Coffee. This 1947 photograph shows a group of Grandview Heights High School students near the front entrance of the local hangout.

Enjoying Stauf’s Java Journey
Nothing better than savoring a cup of Stauf's coffee and learning about their 35 years in Grandview Heights. The Society highlighted Stauf's Coffee Roasters on September 12 at their program Stauf's Java Journey. Mark Swanson, president of Stauf's Coffee Roasters and Cup O'Joe, shared Stauf's history as Columbus' first micro roaster, and how their coffee, customers, and business have changed in 35 years at their original Grandview Avenue location. The Society provided insight into Stauf's Grandview Heights location on the historic Bank Block which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sororities and fraternities were a part of the social network for Grandview High School students from 1915 until they were disallowed in Ohio by an action of the state legislature in 1960.

The Jeffrey Mining Company hosted an annual golf tournament at the 'Arlington Hunt and Golf Club', which was actually called the Arlington Country Club at the time in 1917.

Field Days - Between the years 1915 and 1925, the event of the year was the Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff and Upper Arlington Field Day Celebration. This annual holiday activity, held in early summer featured a parade, food, a baseball game between GH and UA, children's games, etc.

In May of 1923, Grandview Heights. Mayor John Ryder (lower left) proposed a $30,000 bond issue which included $15,000 for a building “of brick construction and artistic design, in keeping with the other architecture of the village,” to be built in what was then the new community park at Goodale Blvd. and Grandview Ave.
2023 Memorial Day Parade
The Society showed its patriotism by its presence in the 2023 Grandview Heights Memorial Day parade. Trustees exhibited the Society’s new logo and handed out fliers highlighting History Walks.

Stauf’s Java Journey
Join us on September 12 at Stauf's Coffee Roasters on Grandview Avenue to learn about Stauf's history as Columbus' first micro roaster, and how their coffee, customers, and business have changed in 35 years at their original Grandview Avenue location.
