A Revised Edition of Final Salute

The Society has published a revised edition of the 1989 publication entitled Final Salute. Of the 600 plus veterans that the Grandview Heights High School Alumni Association has identified thus far, 62 lost their lives in the line of duty. This second edition of Final Salute builds upon the wonderful work of the original authors.

The first edition, published in 1989, was the result of untold hours of research by numerous volunteers. Their efforts to unearth the details of our fallen citizens were largely derived from the memories of families and friends of the deceased, newspapers, scrapbooks, photo albums, and microfilm depositories. Today, 35 years later, we can use digital resources to build upon that work. With access to literally hundreds of online digital resources, we can now fully tell the stories surrounding their sacrifices.

As noted in the first edition, Final Salute resulted from those attending the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Memorial Day services through the years. Listening to the roll call each year brought the realization of how few people knew anything about these men. With this publication, we hope that more members of our community will become acquainted with these service members who gave their all.

Copies of Final Salute are available for purchase here.
